Sustainability runs in my family. My parents are vegetarians, and I was raised vegetarian too. Growing up, we recycled everything we could and repurposed anything that still had life left in it. Donating clothes to charities and shopping second-hand were a part of my everyday life, with trips to regular clothing stores being rare.

However, as a teenager, I started buying fast fashion whenever I had the money. But as I learned more about the environmental impact of the fashion industry, especially the carbon footprint of fast fashion, I realized something had to change.

In Sweden, we recycle so many materials—paper, plastic, glass, metal—but most fabrics still end up in landfills or are incinerated. All the resources that went into making those clothes are essentially wasted.

One day, during my crochet phase, my mom asked me to make a bathroom mat from old clothes that were too worn out to be donated. I loved the project, and it sparked the idea that would eventually lead to Unravel. Since then, I haven’t stopped thinking about how I can make a bigger impact and contribute to a more sustainable world.
